The Batman: 10 Huge New Reveals From Director Matt Reeves At DC FanDome
3. How The Public Views The Caped Crusader
Sometimes, Batman is portrayed as a member of the Justice League who openly saves the world alongside Superman and Wonder Woman. Other times, he operates in the shadows and is believed to be little more than a myth in Gotham City (something which makes him all the more formidable).
Reeves says that his Batman is focused on "what he can do to finally change this place," but after nearly two years of trying to do exactly that, he's beginning to realise that his efforts are in vain as "what he's doing doesn't seem to have any effect." As a result, this Dark Knight is "no perfect" and over the course of The Batman will "make mistakes and fail and grow and be heroic."
Clearly, he does have a relationship with Jim Gordon and the Gotham City Police Department at this stage, but in terms of how he's perceived by the public, "He's kind of a growing legend and I think there are some people who are wondering, 'Does he exist?'" Reeves said.
"That legend is building day by day and has been since he made his first appearance about a year-and-a-half ago — we're in year two — so the public is afraid of him." Honestly that sounds perfect.
