7. Bruce Wayne
Stop laughing in the back! Of course a Batman film HAS to feature Bruce Wayne, billionaire playboy, but this is a very different Bruce from what we’ve come to know. Batman v Superman sees a Wayne deeply troubled by loss and more determined than ever to bend justice to his will. Clearly being the saviour of Gotham has taken its toll, leading our hero on a darker path.
Though Bruce has always been a complex character, (he dresses up as a bat for pete’s sake) this version has clearly lost something beyond his parents. A surrogate son perhaps? Regardless, Bruce’s apparent personality transplant in the Justice League character can’t be the end of his arc and I fully expect Affleck to address Batman’s actions over the past few years.
Affleck excels at portraying complex and critically broken characters and this Bruce Wayne is arguably in need of putting back together. It has been said that the Bruce persona is in fact a mask for Batman to hide in plain sight – maybe it’s time to truly explore that.
