The Batman: 10 Things Ben Affleck Must Get Right

6. Justify The Villain

Here’s the thing – Deathstroke is without a doubt a bad ass and has certainly seen an enormous rise in popularity across all media. From his appearances in Arrow to his importance in the Arkham series, the one eyed assassin has certainly come a long way from his days as a thorn in the Teen Titans side. But that’s just it; Slade Wilson is intrinsically linked to the Teen Titans who as far as we know, don’t yet exist in this universe. His story is so intertwined with theirs that his children play pivotal roles in iconic TT storylines.

With Jared Leto’s casting, many of us expected the Joker to be the major villain of the first Batman standalone in the DCEU and whilst he is classically portrayed as the mirror image of Batman, Deathstroke may fulfil that role far more literally. Effectively the twisted image of Bruce Wayne (even down to the child sidekicks and the tragedy that befalls them), Wilson can provide a fascinating prism through which to show a Bruce Wayne a few steps from the edge. He’s certainly been close enough in this universe.

This is one element I trust Affleck to nail, but many will still question how Deathstroke ever justified the position of lead villain in the first interconnected Batman standalone.
