The Batman: 10 Things We Need To See In Matt Reeves' Reboot

1. A Solid Detective Story

The Batman Hush
DC Comics

Batman doesn’t call himself the World’s Greatest Detective because the Bat Family got him a cheap mug for Father’s Day. Investigation is built into the core of Batman which, sadly, is something we’ve rarely seen in live action iterations. It’s not surprising seeing as the idea of a man dressed like a bat curb-stomping criminals in the night is far more marketable to film studios than his detective abilities, and more often than not, Batman is shown to be just a rich bruiser with fancy gadgets.

However, it’s his investigative abilities that make Batman so respected in the comic books. He has a contingency plan for everything, including if any or all members of the Justice League ever go rogue. He discovered a secret society of Gotham elites that run the city behind the scenes.

He works closely with the Gotham Police Department, not just as an enforcer, but as an investigator and forensic analyst. It’s worth remembering that Batman was created with Sherlock Holmes as inspiration. With how successful portrayals of Sherlock Holmes have been in the recent past, it’s about time that element of Batman is brought to the forefront of his marketable skills.
