The Batman: 10 Things We Need To See In Matt Reeves' Reboot

2. The Bat Family

It is a crime that the only iteration of the Bat Family we’ve gotten thus far was at the hands of Joel Schumacher. While Batman is an interesting character in his own right, the inclusion of the various characters that have held the mantles of Robin and Batgirl enriches the mythos. This inclusion lends itself to the idea previously mentioned of portraying a Batman that has had some existing history under the cowl.

Including the Bat Family would also pair nicely with the idea of minimizing the Bruce Wayne elements of the story, as having partners in his crusade against crime would add a different element to focus on from a purely Batman side of the story. Showing the partnership, Batman’s often lack of trust in his young companions, and burgeoning resentment of the team can make for a story that, if executed well, wouldn’t need to include Bruce Wayne at all.

With Nightwing and Batgirl films in early development, there is clear interest in these characters. Enough even to expand the DCEU to include further spin-offs with the various teams these characters have been involved with such as: the Teen Titans, the Outlaws, and the already in-production Birds of Prey.
