The Batman: 10 Things We Need To See In Matt Reeves' Reboot

3. An Already Active Batman

Matt Reeves has already promised that The Batman will not be an origin story. This is great news as it’s a safe bet, based on the popularity of the character, that the population, en masse, is aware of Batman’s origin. Similarly to how Spider-Man: Homecoming avoided another Uncle Ben being shot in favor of jumping into the story of an already active Spider-Man, The Batman would benefit from a similar treatment.

Taking things one step further, putting the timeline of the story somewhere before the gruff, older portrayal first given by Ben Affleck, but decidedly after Bruce Wayne first dons the cowl would be the ideal timing to introduce this new story. Pulling no punches and assuming, for better or worse, that filmgoers are familiar with Batman leaves more room to explore a good story without having to pad the runtime.

Jumping in on a Batman that has been active in Gotham for some time also provides an existing list of enemies racked up during his time as a vigilante. This would also add to the possibilities of introducing some of the off-beat villains as previously mentioned.
