The Best Moment Of Every MCU Film - Ranked

8. The Ancient One’s Death – Doctor Strange

Giant Man War Machine Captain America Civil War
Marvel Studios

Since his introduction to the MCU in 2016, Doctor Strange has become one of the most popular characters in this entire shared universe. His origin story shared many similar aspects to that of Iron Man, with the egotistical narcissist going through a lifechanging event and coming out the other side with a new, heroic outlook on life.

While Tony's mentor turned villainous, however, Stephen Strange's kept teaching him right up until the very moment of her death. Time was a constant theme throughout the movie, and even though the Ancient One could see into many different timelines, across many different realities, she could never see past one particular moment.

After suffering a terrible fall at the hands of Kaecilius, the Ancient One and her newest disciple shared a solemn moment frozen in time, looking out at the thunderstorm over New York City. It is a truly beautiful scene in terms of both aesthetics and Tilda Swinton's performance as her character is forced to accept her death.

She knew she was about to die, but even as she is talking to Stephen she is appreciating every little thing going on in front of her, from the snow falling, to the slow motion lightning and even the traffic. Before leaving, Strange's mentor shares with him several powerful lessons in one moving speech before quietly passing on.

Doctor Strange is most well known for its psychedelic, trippy scenes, but this almost peaceful conversation is easily its best.
