The Best Moment Of Every MCU Film - Ranked

20. Thor Is Cast Out – Thor

Giant Man War Machine Captain America Civil War
Marvel Studios

After Iron Man and the Hulk kept the MCU relatively grounded, the fourth movie of the franchise took us into outer space and to the magnificent world of Asgard. With this came the origin story of a young, naïve prince not quite ready to take the throne from his father.

After the God of Thunder sought revenge on Laufey and the Frost Giants in Jotunheim, risking not only the lives of himself and his friends but of everyone on Asgard, he was brought back home by a seething Odin. He was treated like a spoiled child by his father, and earned every second of the scolding.

The Odinson's naivety in ruling and his father's wisdom come together in a brutal scene in which both actors are excellent, but in particular Sir Anthony Hopkins and his almost animal, vicious rage, rarely seen from the character as he sends his eldest son to Midgard, stripped of all his powers.

When the movie was released in 2011, Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston were relatively unknown by mainstream movie audiences, but Sir Anthony Hopkins was instantly recognisable and was brought into the franchise for scenes exactly like the banishment of Thor.
