The Best Moment Of Every MCU Film - Ranked

19. Frigga’s Funeral – Thor: The Dark World

Giant Man War Machine Captain America Civil War
Marvel Studios

The second installment in the Thor franchise is widely regarded as the worst MCU film to date, and with good cause. Yet while it isn't looked back on fondly by many, it does have its moments. Well, moment. In the rough that is The Dark World lies the diamond that is the funeral of Frigga.

Throughout the MCU, death has followed Thor across the galaxy, and it was the death of his mother that was the first loss he truly suffered. Loki had a habit of coming back from the dead, but Frigga had no such ability. Thor, Odin and all of Asgard were forced to say goodbye to their Queen in a simply heart-wrenching scene.

After Frigga suffered a heroic death at the hands of Malekith whilst protecting Jane and the Aether within her, she was given a hauntingly beautiful ceremony, paying tribute to the Norse funeral rituals. This moment, shared by all of Asgard and the audience, was a solemn, powerful scene that easily stood out as the movie's best.

The MCU has operated for over a decade, finely balancing action, humour and emotion, and this is just the first of a few scenes on this list that showcases the incredible power of the latter. There was even a glimpse of emotion shown from Loki.
