The Dark Knight Rises: 20 Blunders in Chris Nolan’s Trilogy

3. Murdered Parents? What Murdered Parents?

You€™ve probably guessed by now that I preferred Batman Begins to the other two films in Nolan€™s Bat-canon. To me, the very epicentre of the Batman legend is the death of Bruce Wayne€™s parents - it€™s the one constant in Batman€™s motivation - and Batman Begins captured that essence perfectly in its opening act. But somewhere along the way that was lost. His dead parents are scarcely mentioned again, and when they are it feels like it€™s simply to remind us that they were murdered. How can Nolan be so insistent that TDKR brings the whole franchise full circle? If this was the case, surely we€™d have seen Master Bruce get some sort of closure? For my money Nolan should have somehow ended the franchise with Bruce Wayne placing a rose on the spot his parents we€™re killed in Crime Alley. Or at least something along those lines. As it stands, it feels like Nolan forgot why Batman began The Mission in the first place.
