The Dark Knight Rises: 20 Blunders in Chris Nolan’s Trilogy

4. No Greater DC Continuity

If a Justice League Movie does get made (which I€™m already skeptical about, but I guess we€™ll see what happens) I€™m not sure Nolan€™s continuity is going to fly. I€™m not sure I€™d particularly want it to either. Next to Superman, Green Lantern, Wonder Woman and The Flash, Nolan€™s Batman would look like a hell of a slouch. Where Nolan leaves us in The Dark Knight Rises, it€™s unclear what Batman€™s true motivation for abandoning Gotham is. Maybe he was burned out, maybe he was sick of dehumanising himself every time he put on the cowl, maybe he actually died. It€™s all trivial to me, what matters is that he€™s gone. The simple answer would be to reboot the Batman franchise so that it connects more seamlessly with a Justice League Movie. If Batman€™s going to stand next to actual super-powered heroes, he needs to be completely revamped in my opinion; he needs to shed that €˜realistic€™ skin and start acting like a proper comic book character again. But where does that then leave the Nolan franchise in terms of main-canon continuity? Let€™s just call it Earth 2 and forget about it.
