The Dark Knight Rises: 20 Blunders in Chris Nolan’s Trilogy

18. The Voice

http://youtu.be/e3zJxF-0N3Y God, that over-the-top, shouty voice€ Seriously I don€™t know how anybody sat through the scene in TDKR where Batman screams €œWHERE IS DA DEDDENATOR!!!€ at Bane without breaking out into awkward giggles. It was like watching my Dad trying to sing my favourite 80€™s hair metal tune at a karaoke night (Don€™t Stop Believin€™ by Journey in case you were wondering). Maybe he hits a note or two, but it€™s no less wrong as a result. This isn€™t something that loses the soul of the source per se, this is aesthetic. Batman in my mind has a cold, methodical voice that€™s somewhat akin to Bale€™s own Patrick Bateman in American Psycho, but that€™s not my issue. Change the voice, go ahead; have at it. Change it to whatever quality, consistency or pitch you want; I€™ll still give it the time of day. Just don€™t change it to something that sounds ridiculous. I wouldn€™t care if it was Batman, Bateman or Bob Hoskins €“ if he sounded like Bale does at his most heated in Nolan€™s franchise I€™d still turn to whoever I was with and say €œdoes this guy need a lozenge or what?€
