14. Jonathan Nolan is a Catwoman Fan
Although it seems like an obvious addition following Anne Hathaways stunning performance, Christopher Nolan and co-writer David Goyer were initially a little hesitant about the idea of including Catwoman in The Dark Knight Rises. We kept imagining Eartha Kitt in the role, David Goyer said in the book Art and Making of the Dark Knight Trilogy, which was not of the Christopher Nolan Batman universe
at all. It was Christopher Nolan's brother, co-writer Jonathan Nolan, who felt strongly that if we were trying to create a complete arc for Batman, we couldnt do it without Catwoman, and without that relationship between Catwoman and Batman. His enthusiasm finally won over his brother, who was ultimately able to look at her as a grifter, a con womanand trust that the theatrical elements of what makes her specifically Catwoman as opposed to any other cat burglar would evolve.
13. Heddy Lamarr as Catwoman
In addition to looking at the comic book source material, Anne Hathaway
found inspiration for her portrayal of Catwoman in Hedy Lamarr, an Austrian born actress who became a star in the 1930s (and who was later memorably lampooned in Mel Brooks Blazing Saddles). Hathaway became interested in Lamarr when she heard that Bob Kane and Bill Finger had partly modeled Selina Kyle after her; Hathaway said that it was largely Lamarrs breathing that influenced her: I know this sounds odd, but her breathing is extraordinaryShe takes these long, deep, languid breaths and exhales slowly. Theres a shot of her in Ecstasy exhaling a cigarette and I took probably five breaths during her one exhale. So I started working on my breathing a lot.
