Most Simpsons fans can agree that while The Simpsons Movie was good, it wasn't great and it wasted a lot of its potential to create a truly defining Simpsons movie. For a show with so many well-known and beloved characters, it's disappointing that many of them weren't given much to do in the movie, some of them only having as little as one line.

The Simpsons Movie being underwhelming was also disappointing because so many of the classic Simpsons could have easily made great movies on their own had they been given the 90-minute treatment. So many Simpsons episodes from the show's golden era feature such great and funny premises that could greatly benefit from a longer runtime. If the Simpsons writers wanted to make a second Simpsons movie, these are the episodes they should consider basing it on.

In this list, we list down the 10 classic Simpsons episodes that could have been movies — and how The Simpsons' writers could still turn them into movies should they ever decide to do The Simpsons Movie 2.

10. Simpsons Roasting On An Open Fire (Season 1, Episode 1)

The Treehouse of Horror episodes are considered some of the best episodes of The Simpsons and some of the best Halloween TV specials ever, so it's unfortunate that the golden era of The Simpsons (generally considered the first 10 seasons, but if you're a real purist, it's season 3 to 8) featured so little Christmas specials. It's even more unfortunate when you consider that the whole show started on a Christmas special and a damn good one at that.

Really, a Simpsons Christmas movie would not only make sense, it could also easily be a Christmas must-watch if done right. Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire is jam-packed with both humor and emotion.

Given the number of lovable characters we've grown to know so well from the series, a Simpsons Christmas movie could easily make us both laugh and cry while we're drinking eggnog in our ugly Christmas sweaters if it showcases how all of the Simpsons characters spend their Christmas and not just the Simpsons family themselves. It could also make up for the lack of Christmas specials during the golden era if it's written with the same wit and charm from those days.
