The Spectacular Spider-Man: 10 Reasons It's Already Doomed

5. The Avengers Issue

There is one explanation for having Iron Man turn up and fight Spidey that makes it easier to swallow; Peter Parker's trying to join The Avengers. Could him clashing with Shellhead be one of the trials for a more established, post Age Of Ultron/Civil War team? Possibly, but, unless they go in the audience-baiting direction, the outcome of this isn't going to be the one everyone's expecting. You see, contrary to what appears to be the popular opinion, Spider-Man isn't traditionally an Avenger. OK, he's been a part of the team at some points in the comics, but for an obscenely long time Peter Parker was the kid on the outside desperate to be included with the cool kids. Talk about superhero reflecting alter ego. To take that route, however, will look pretty brazen after the massive deal made about Spidey joining the MCU - following Marvel essentially giving a stamp of approval to Sony's new franchise in Civil War, The Avengers aren't going to let him play and Sony are going to run off and instead invest in their own sub-franchise. That can be fine enough in terms of entertaining films, but seems a bit like artificial drama, especially when, only a year after being rejected, Spider-Man's going to be teaming up with them to fight Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War - Part 1. Of course, Iron Man could approve of Spidey and make him a member, but then we're back to the problem of shoe-horning him in for the sake of it.
