Thor: Ragnarok - 20 WTF Moments

8. Literally Nobody Wins The Fight

The fight between Thor and Hulk in the Sakaar arena was always going to be one of the most hyped sequences in the entire movie. It's just something of a shame that we had to see so much of it in the trailers.

There's a problem with the way it ends though: in the rules of the Contest of Champions, you win or you die (or so we're led to believe), which not only suggests that Hulk has killed multiple opponents (including Doug), but also that the only way to end the fight is for either he or Thor to die. Which is precisely where it looks like it's headed when the Grand Master sabotages the fight to ensure Hulk's victory.

Only then we get a smashcut away and it's revealed that Thor survived and was allowed to be Hulk's roommate. What? Why would The Grand Master allow them to fight to a draw and then simply stop? It makes no sense, particularly when Thor just made him look terrible by besting his champion. He should have revelled in Thor being smushed as immediate punishment for that, at least.

And then why would he let them room together knowing they have a pre-existing relationship that Thor could use to manipulate Hulk into helping him? It's not exactly a smart move by the genius villain.
