17. Contest Of Champions

When the Grandmaster is talking up his famous games, he reveals that they are called The Contest of Champions, which will immediately be familiar to fans of the mobile game released by Marvel in 2014.

But that game was based loosely on a mini-series comic that definitely has lots in common with Ragnarok. In that series, the Grandmaster and Death battle for the life of the Collector, with each using superheroes as their pawns in a contest.

The film also obviously takes in elements of Planet Hulk - though not a great deal - as well as the Ragnarok comic and the Surtur saga.
