Success can often be a double-edged sword in the movie industry. Every actor wants to give as good a performance as possible in every role, but with that comes the risk of being defined by or typecast as certain types of characters.

This is what concerned Uma Thurman following the success of her iconic performance as The Bride in Kill Bill. Though she had appeared in Tarantino's Pulp Fiction a decade earlier, it was the revenge flick double header that had her carefully plotting her next moves away from the action genre.

As Thurman told Jimmy Fallon in 2025, she never stopped hearing about Kill Bill after the duology wrapped up in 2004, and there was definitely a risk of being pigeonholed into those same sort of roles, so she veered away, initially to the likes of Be Cool and The Producers.

It wasn't until 2025 that Thurman finally returned to action with The Old Guard 2, over two decades removed from Kill Bill: Vol. 2, after being so inspired by what Charlize Theron achieved in The Old Guard. It's just a shame that the sequel couldn't live up to the brilliance of the first.
