Tom Holland's Movies Ranked Worst To Best
15. In The Heart Of The Sea
Although it has its ardent defenders, In The Heart Of The Sea failed to capture the imaginations of audiences and critics alike. Notable for uniting fellow Avengers Tom Holland and Chris Hemsworth to go after the literal White Whale, the film boasts several other excellent faces like Cillian Murphy, Brendan Gleeson, Ben Wishaw, Donald Sumpter and Benjamin Walker. Unfortunately, the film failed to find an audience and was considered a major financial flop.
Attempting to recreate the conflict between Whaler and Whale in 1820, the very story that inspired Herman Melville to write Moby Dick, In The Heart Of The Sea went for a slow pace and gradual build up, ultimately dragging out the ordeal for too long. Although visually stunning and gloriously rendered, the sweeping cinematics aren't quite enough to sustain the film into true greatness.
Tom plays the younger version of Thomas Nickerson (whose older counterpart, Brendan Gleeson, narrates the tale), the young cabin-boy who is forced to witness the lengths that men will go to in order to survive and prosper. Ultimately this film belongs to Hemsworth, who put in a phenomenal effort to look and own the part of first mate Chase.
For those who like a slower, more contemplative film, this is for you.
