5. Johnny Tran - The Fast And The Furious
Rick Yune portrays the character of Johnny Tran in the first film of the franchise; setting the benchmark for future villains and many of them have well and truly passed Tran. Again just like Verone, Yune did not do a dire job of playing Johnny Tran; in fact for years I thought he was the better villain out of the two until I watched The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, as I thought he was more ruthless as a whole compared to Carter Verone, as he was a more hands-on villain rather than ordering others around. But as the films have progressed and we are welcomed to more and more antagonists, the more I think Tran falls below par. I still cannot help but feel that Johnny Tran did not feel like the main villain until towards the end of the actual film; where he and his cousin Lance performed a drive-by shooting which killed Jesse; that moment felt like the turning point which felt like Tran was no pushover. Sure, throughout the film we saw what Johnny Tran was capable of with his gang, such as the scene in the garage where Dom and Brian are hiding and Tran is busy interrogating the man who was supposed to sell them engines for their cars, and then fills his mouth with engine oil in order to get answers. For me that was a memorable scene for Tran as he showed his aggressiveness, a side which was very rarely seen on Carter Verone. There isn't a lot between the two when you consider the remaining villains but because Johnny Tran was used more than Verone and utilised a lot better than Verone it means he was involved on a more personal level with Dom and his family; he is classed as a rival whilst Verone was seen as a boss without holding a personal grudge, so for these reasons I would say that Tran edges out Carter Verone.
