Toy Story Of Terror: 6 Things You Need To Know

6. Thankfully, The Cast Actually Does Return

Tom Hanks Ahead of the screening of Toy Story Of Terror this month, Sky released a linked teaser campaign selling broadband, and using the Toy Story characters - much to the chagrin of committed Toy Story fans outraged at the commercial assault of their beloved figures. All of the gang who survived the end of Toy Story 3 were there, including Bonnie's toys, confirming that each would appear in the upcoming short, and everything looked professional, slightly allaying fears that Pixar were allowing their chief property to be Disneyfied (in terms of the callous and careless way Disney treat their sequels.) But it became immediately clear that something wasn't quite right. The voices, though obviously very similar, were a little bit wrong (especially Mr Pricklepants, who sounded very little like original voicer Timothy Dalton.) It was hard to work out what precisely was wrong with the other characters, but it became clear that none of the original cast had lent their voices to the marketing campaign, with stand-ins and impersonators used in their place - hence the jarring effect. Among those voices, and probably the most convincing was that of Woody, which wasn't performed by Tom Hanks as usual, but instead by his brother Jim, who has filled in for the actor before on commercials and video games (including on Disney Infinity.) Interestingly, Patrick Warburton has previously stood in for Tim Allen, which is ironic considering how much more of a big deal Warburton is now than Allen - on spin-off Buzz Lightyear Of Star Command. Thankfully, these charlatans won't be back for the TV feature, as the entire cast have come back to lend their voices, and make sure that Toy Story Of Terror doesn't end up feeling like a cheap knock off.
