Uncharted Review: 4 Ups & 6 Downs

1. It's An Unconvincing Start For The Franchise

All in all, this isn't the Uncharted movie most fans wanted, but it is the one many feared they'd get once the cast and crew were announced.

Again, it's not the worst video game adaptation ever, but it is a depressing artistic failure considering the many talented people involved with it, no matter that some were clearly ill-suited for the job.

Whether the movie gets a sequel or not will of course depend entirely on its box office performance in the coming weeks, but honestly, on the strength of this first entry it's incredibly difficult to muster any enthusiasm at all for more movies from this creative team.

As popular as Tom Holland is as Spider-Man, if the film under-performs at the box office it's probably best to just wait a few years and make a reboot with a more age-appropriate actor playing Nate.

But more importantly, hire writers with an interesting vision for adapting the franchise and a director with an aptitude for visual bombast - not the dude who made Venom.

So, Uncharted isn't a good movie, then, but it's also not complete, irredeemable trash. And so, here's what actually works...
