Uncharted Review: 4 Ups & 6 Downs
2. The Superficial, Empty Fan Service

Like basically any video game movie, Uncharted is of course filled with fan service both blatant and subtle that viewers are encouraged to keep their eyes peeled for.
Fans' eyes will surely light up early on when they hear the Drake brothers discuss Sir Francis Drake's Latin maxim "Sic Parvis Magna" - aka "greatness from small beginnings" - but for the most part these nods to the source material are superficial and heavy-handed.
Fans are sure to be left especially divided on Nolan North's absurdly on-the-nose cameo later in the film, which might simply leave fans depressed that he's so, so much better at playing Drake than Tom Holland, who he briefly interacts with.
Beyond this the film's two credits scenes both deliver fan service moments that help set up a potential sequel, but overall these touchstones feel less like they're deployed for a love of the IP than because the writers wanted to cynically manipulate the audience's nostalgia receptors.
