16. The Log Splitter - In a Violent Nature
Art-house slasher flick In a Violent Nature certainly got plenty of attention for its instantly iconic yoga-pretzel kill, yet as creatively grisly as that scene is, it's not quite the most brutal death in the movie.
That's an honour bestowed upon the poor park ranger (Reece Presley) who is waylaid by masked murderer Johnny (Ry Barrett) and dismembered with a gas-powered log splitter.
Johnny first incapacitates the ranger by punching him in the spine, leaving him helpless as Johnny painstakingly feeds him into the splitter while he's still alive, beginning with his hand and then following up with his head.
Though some complain about In a Violent Nature being too slow and deliberate, this scene above all others proves how effective that approach can be, by lingering on the victim as he's methodically dismantled.
It leaves the audience with a whole ton of time to think about what the ranger must've been going through in his final moments.
