20 Upcoming Movies That Have Made ONE Big Mistake
13. Being Called Resident Evil - Resident Evil
As exciting as it is that the new Resident Evil reboot is being written and directed by the great Zach Cregger, that's also kind of the problem.
Cregger, a fiercely original rising genre auteur, was never going to deliver a down-the-line adaptation of the video game source material, and to that end his film is actually an entirely standalone story with brand new characters that just so happens to exist in the world of Resident Evil.
And so, while the trailers look pretty damn terrific in their own right, some fans have understandably complained that it only resembles Resident Evil to a point.
That is to say, Cregger basically seems to have made a Resident Evil-adjacent film which bears that title largely for marketing and branding purposes.
Now, it seems damn-near guaranteed that this will be the best-reviewed Resident Evil film - admittedly clearing one hell of a low bar - but expect the response from fans to be considerably more divisive.
We'll probably hear a ton of "It's a good movie, just not a good Resident Evil movie."
