13. It's In Post-Production HELL - The Way of the Wind
The Way of the Wind is the long-awaited new film from the great Terrence Malick, and while Malick famously spends years tinkering with most of his films in post-production, the belaboured editing process for his latest is extreme even for his standards.
The film, an epic biblical drama centered around the life of Jesus Christ (Géza Röhrig), wrapped shooting way back in 2019, and some seven years later is still being edited by Malick.
Despite awards pundits anticipating that The Way of the Wind would get a splashy festival debut for the last few years, it's continually remained conspicuously absent, and a while back star Mathieu Kassovitz reported that Malick shot 3,000 hours of footage over the course of filming.
To an extent this is just the way that Malick works, but again, this is a long post-production period even for him, and with the filmmaker being 82 years of age, there's absolutely the possibility that he won't have time to finish it.
We can only hope that Malick isn't locked in some sort of debilitating creative block in the editing room and will actually complete the film sooner rather than later.
