12. The 140-Minute Runtime & PG-13 Rating - Wildwood
Wildwood certainly looks like another massively ambitious step up for stop-motion animation studio Laika, whose work in the medium has become so peerlessly, jaw-droppingly polished that many even incorrectly assumed they'd made the jump to full-on CGI animation.
Even accepting that stop-motion animation remains disappointingly niche where box office is concerned, Wildwood faces an even bigger uphill struggle to turn a profit considering Laika's uncompromising approach.
For starters, the film will rock a 140-minute runtime, making it the longest stop-motion animated film in history, and one of the longest English-language animated films of any kind.
On one hand, that's a stunning achievement considering the ludicrous amount of work that goes into stop-motion, but on the other, the blockbuster-sized runtime is sure to deter many families from heading out to see the film.
And then there's the fact that this will be Laika's first ever PG-13 movie, which again will place a ceiling on who shows up to see it.
It's a fair assumption that Wildwood will turn out to be another acclaimed flop for Laika, but at least with the company being owned by uber-wealthy Nike co-founder Phil Knight, perhaps we should just consider the film's mere existence a wonderful act of charity.
