20 Upcoming Movies Facing Huge Issues

14. Competing With Matt Reeves' Batman - The Brave & the Bold

Among the titles originally announced for the first chapter of James Gunn's DC Universe was The Brave and the Bold, which will introduce the DCU's iteration of Batman and team him with Robin.

Though the film was first announced in January 2023 with Andy Muschietti (It, The Flash) tapped to direct, we've had few substantial updates in the near-four years since, and the most recent one wasn't much encouraging.

Muschietti said in an interview that The Brave and the Bold had been put "on hold" until the Paramount-Warner merger was complete, and while Gunn retorted that the film was in no way on hold, there's still the nagging issue of competing with Matt Reeves and Robert Pattinson's firmly established Batman.

Gunn himself previously called this the "biggest issue" with the DCU's Batman, and honestly, it seems like a near-impossible problem to overcome.

Audiences are unlikely to shell out to see two iterations of the Dark Knight on the big screen, no matter how distinct, and Warner Bros. must surely be anxious that The Brave and the Bold could impact the pop-culture penetration of Reeves' acclaimed take on the character.

Frankly, it wouldn't be remotely surprising if The Brave and the Bold spends the next decade malingering in developmental purgatory.
