20 Upcoming Movie Sequels You Had No Idea About

With three movies to its name between 2004 and 2011, it sure seemed like the Harold and Kumar franchise had a good run, because how many stoner comedies are even popular enough to get a single sequel, let alone a trilogy?

Though stars John Cho and Kal Penn have floated the idea of returning for a fourth, enough time ultimately passed that it seemed like everyone involved had basically moved on from the idea.

After all, a new film focused on a middle-aged Harold and Kumar could run the risk of, like so many other belated comedy sequels, being a bit sad and depressing.

But in June 2025, Harold and Kumar 4 was officially announced, with franchise creators Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg set to direct and co-write the script with Josh Heald (Hot Tub Time Machine).

The most recent update came in July, when producer Greg Shapiro confirmed that Cho and Penn are signed to return, with shooting expected to begin "pretty soon" once the script is polished.
