13. The Lord of the Rings: Shadow of the Past
There's so much Lord of the Rings content being produced right now that you couldn't really be blamed for struggling to keep track of it all.
And case in point, back in March it was announced that in addition to Andy Serkis' The Hunt For Gollum, another live-action film is in the works.
The Lord Of The Rings: Shadow Of The Past will be co-written by Tolkien mega-fan Stephen Colbert alongside his son Peter McGee and franchise scribe Philippa Boyens, and will adapt chapters three through eight from Fellowship Of The Ring, which were excised in Peter Jackson's adaptation.
Though set after The Return of the King, the film's flashback framing device will allow it to incorporate the aforementioned passages.
Rings die-hards are naturally set to gobble this all up, though more casual fans might and wait and see whether the film can truly justify its own existence beyond a relentless desire to squeeze more money out of a huge IP.
