6. Carnival at the End of Days
In June 2024, the legendary Terry Gilliam announced a new film, Carnival At the End of Days - a fantasy comedy in which God decides to wipe out humanity for ruining the planet, prompting Satan to realise he'll be out of a job without humanity and so try to save them.
The film was set to star Johnny Depp as Satan and Jeff Bridges as God, alongside Adam Driver, Jason Momoa, Tom Waits, Asa Butterfield, and Emma Laird.
Yet as has too often been an issue across Gilliam's career, he struggled to find financing for the left-field film, and in an interview late last year, stated his belief that it wasn't going to happen as a result.
Gilliam followed up by turning his attention towards another long-gestating passion project, The Defective Detective, which he now intends to be his final film, what with the filmmaker turning 86 years old this November.
