Venom Trailer Reactions: 7 Ups & 4 Downs

1. It Genuinely Looks Like Body Horror

As soon as it was revealed that Sony were plowing on with their non-MCU Spider-verse movies, the one thing every sane person in the world would immediately have hoped is that they'd be doing something different to the rest of the comic book movie slate. Making a side-movie to the MCU would have just been redundant and there would be no reason for them to have simply sold everything in the Spider-Verse to Marvel.

Luckily, this trailer suggests we're getting something Marvel Studios wouldn't and probably couldn't make at all - a horror with distinct body horror influences.

Could this end up being something like Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde meets The Fly and An American Werewolf In London? That telling shot of Tom Hardy in the MRI scanner (which presumably triggers the symbiote's hatred of sonic bombardment) definitely seems to suggest that the "transformations" are going to be painful. And that's definitely a big selling point.
