5. You Can Understand Tom Hardy

Tom Hardy is a remarkably compelling screen presence and one of the most intense, interesting actors currently working. Unfortunately for him though, he's pretyt much risen to an almost old-school style level of stardom that means people come to see his films because of him being in it alone, rather than for what it is or even on the merits of performance.

For the past few years, it's almost felt like he's been consciously railing against that by shrouding himself in performance quirks - whether by changing his body physically or affecting such strange vocal tics that he's barely understandable. It's almost got to the point where him being illegible is a trademark of his performances.

But that's not a good thing, and it's good to hear that he's actually understandable here. Well, at least when he's not grafted to the symbiote anyway - quite how he approaches that side of it remains to be seen for now.
