What Does The Ending Of Logan Really Mean?
3. What About The Other Young Mutants?
The mutants who all escape into Canada - where it seems there is either a mutant sanctuary or a government more willing to harbour fugitive mutants than America's - are all cloned from other mutants from the comics and come with some pretty interesting powers, including Rictor's ability to force throw massive objects.
The question now is whether this group will become another new X-Men team, in the vein of the New Mutants (who will be an entirely different team in the older timeline as directed by Josh Boone). Even in the more realistic world written by James Mangold there could be supervillains worthy of their teaming up, and it would almost feel like them not using their powers for good would be a betrayal of Wolverine's sacrifice to save them.
Equally, it might not be the worst thing if they were seen to go on and live "normal" adjusted lives where their powers don't define them (a rather poetic outcome given their stories), but as all comic book movies ever have always said - almost in capital letters - "the world needs heroes."
If Logan does as well as it looks like it's going to, Fox have an opportunity to give them a sequel/spin-off that wouldn't betray their arcs at all.
