What Your Favourite Star Trek Movie Says About You
Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country
After the critical bomb that was The Final Frontier, it was feared that Paramount would cut their losses and make no more films with the original crew. But with the 25th Anniversary of Star Trek coming up, they agreed to give the original crew the send off they deserved. Nicholas Meyer was brought back to inject some of the magic that made The Wrath Of Khan so popular, and he delivered.
The story picks up with the crew set for retirement, except for Sulu who is now Captain of the USS Excelsior. The Klingons are on the brink of self-destruction and peace talks begin with the Federation. Kirk is sent to escort the High Chancellor to talks on Earth, however, on route the Chancellor is executed and Kirk is framed. That sets into motion a classic Star Trek who-done-it while all the characters get one last chance to show why we love them.
Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country was the perfect way to say goodbye to Kirk & crew.
What It Says About You:
This is the perfect Star Trek for you. Not buried under the weight of its own importance like The Motion Picture was and not overly silly like The Voyage Home. This is classic Star Trek, Kirk getting to do all the adventuring while Spock uses his brain on the ship to figure out what is going on. It reminds you off episodes like Arena, The Doomsday Machine and That Which Survives. All the crew have a chance to show their strengths, they all get their moment in the spotlight and it fills you with tears to see the Enterprise go towards the sunset, one last time.
This film also shows that Nicholas Meyer is the man Paramount should have on the top of their list when they are looking for a director for a Star Trek movie. And with The Undiscovered Country, he did what every film in the franchise has tried to do, he made a better film than Wrath Of Khan.
Set in the Star Trek universe you recognize, with all the aliens you love; The Undiscovered Country is a superb story for Kirk & Co to bow out with. The film even makes Shakespeare sound cool, but that's only because Christopher Plummer is spouting the words while wearing a bolted on eye patch.
In your everyday life, you love news. Diplomacy, politics and back stabbing; you love election season and watching Presidents and Prime Ministers get a grilling is porn for you.
Favorite Moment In The Film:
Target that explosion and fire.
