Wonder Woman 1984: 10 Major New Reveals From The Set Visits
1. Recreating The 1980s
The first action Diana Prince sees in Wonder Woman 1984 comes when she crashes through a mall skylight to save a pair of little girls from robbers. The production team had to take over a real, abandoned mall in Virginia to film the sequence and transform it into somewhere from that period.
Hemming explains that there were some challenges with recreating the time period due to there being a prevalence of graphic tees at the time, with most of the logos that adorned them off limits. "So, we had to develop some T-shirt prints of our own that were cleared," she says. “And even every print on a fabric we’ve had to develop ourselves because you can’t even use a print [without clearance]."
The 1980s are obviously vastly different to the dark days of World War I, so does that mean a No Man's Land sequence is a complete no-go? Roven says, "What was great about that scene was she had support, but it was still about her figuring out how to get across, right?"
"That because it was so important, there was no way for her not to. She had to help those people and do the right thing. So, she has to do that in this film, too. It’s incredibly personal in this film.”
