Wonder Woman: 21 New Details & Secrets Just Revealed
20. It's Based Very Closely On The Comics
The one thing Zack Snyder absolutely cannot be criticised for in his DCEU films is his eye for recapturing iconic comic book panels and dropping in Easter Eggs that only the most perceptive of fans would notice on multiple viewings.
Exec producer Rebecca Steel-Roven says Wonder Woman is very much based on the comics, with multiple sources across the character's history, and there are specific panels that have been recaptured, though the film-makers aren't afraid to leave the source behind when necessary:
“From the stunt team that actually looked at panels to help compose shots to her costume, our villains [and] the characters, the source material is the source material. And really the inspiration for Themyscira, if you go back to the original comics -- it was more about just this ideal sort of paradise. And at the time Greek inspiration felt very appropriate, but what Patty was trying to do was say, ‘O.K., what would that be for contemporary times? When that part of the world isn’t quite so mysterious as it once was, what would our version of Paradise Island be?’”
