Wonder Woman Becomes First Female-Directed Movie With $100 Million Budget
Take that, sexists.
As the controversy over the lack of gender equality in Hollywood continues, Warner Bros. and DC's Wonder Woman is set to become the first female-directed movie to boast a $100 milion budget.
Speaking to an audience at Cannes about women in the film industry and reported in Variety, Athena Film Festival artistic director Melissa Silverstein said, " Its the first movie that a woman has directed a live-action movie with a $100 million budget. First.
Wonder Woman will be directed by Patty Jenkins, the American director known for directing Monster. The critically acclaimed 2003 drama earned star Charlize Theron an Academy Award for Best Actress, while in 2009 late critic Roger Ebert named it the third best movie of the decade.
Silverstein was joined by European Womens Audiovisual Network head of research and PR Francine Raveney at the Women In Motion Talk, and urged moviegoers to buy tickets for movies by female filmmakers to help combat the "ingrained sexism at all layers of this business."
Principle photography for Wonder Woman was completed this month, with the film due for release in 3D and IMAX 3D on June 2nd 2017.
