Wonder Woman Review: 7 Ups & 4 Downs
6. The Refreshingly Hopeful Tone
As far as recent superhero movies go, Wonder Woman has a refreshingly unique tone. Far away from the grimdark dourness of previous DCEU movies or the relentless quip-heavy sarcasm of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it actually feels much closer in spirit to Richard Donner's 1978 Superman or Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
Diana's naivete and optimism about humanity gives the film a distinctly old-fashioned, earnest tone that's a breath of fresh air among most current superhero fare, and that the film manages to combine this with some musings on the darker side of human nature and also be funny as Hell is a very pleasant surprise indeed.
