Wonder Woman Review: 7 Ups & 4 Downs

5. The Action Is (Mostly) Great

Yes, there are issues with the overuse of slow-motion and that generic final battle, but for the most part, this is some of the more compelling and distinct action seen in a superhero film of recent years.

From an opening Themyscira-set fight scene between the Amazons and German soldiers, to a riveting showdown on No Man's Land and even certain action beats of the third act, there's a lot of slick, dynamic action here, helping to wholly distinguish the film from its genre brethren.

Simply, Warner Bros. would be smart to hold onto Patty Jenkins for the inevitable sequel, as long as they give her a few notes about her borderline-fetishistic use of slow-mo.
