World of Warcraft: 10 Things The Movie Needs

5. Mine Warcraft Lore

It might seem obvious, but this is something that so many video game adaptation directors get wrong that we thought it worth mentioning just in case. Just because you're adaptation the video game medium to another form, that doesn't mean you have to jettison practically everything that the gamers liked about the property in the first place (are you listening, Paul W.S. Anderson and Uwe Boll?); do authors of books have to put up with this s**t? Absolutely not. Duncan Jones seems to be a lot smarter and more talented than most of the filmmakers who have currently adapted a video game, so we're sure he'll make judicious choices, the first of which is to explore the Warcraft mythology for a potent story. Through the wealth of Warcraft of games, there's plenty of quality characters, locations and narratives to adapt, and though it might feel a little too indebted to The Lord of the Rings, the Lich-King story is probably one of the more cinema-ready storylines the universe has come up with.
