20 Horror Movies Ruined By TERRIBLE Reveals
10. The Long-Limbed Creature - Blair Witch (2016)
2016's Blair Witch was a mostly forgettable rehash of the original classic found footage film, though transgressed into downright awfulness in its finale.
In the climax, the protagonists capture footage of a long-limbed creature in the woods, a creature which seemingly kills them both in the final scene.
Ever since the film's release, fans have speculated on precisely what this entity might be - is it the Blair Witch itself, some other monstrous entity under the witch's control, or perhaps even the spirit of original protagonist Heather (Heather Donahue)?
Neither director Adam Wingard nor writer Simon Barrett have ever identified the creature, but more than this, revealing a chintzy-looking CGI monster to the audience just feels like a fundamental betrayal of everything The Blair Witch Project is about.
The original film mined so much terror from the fact that we never see anything explicitly supernatural on-screen, which while obviously a budget-motivated decision, makes the film infinitely more plausible as actual found footage.
By comparison, Blair Witch 2016 shows us a generic-looking digital creature which can't even begin to live up to the uncanny entities the audience can freely conjure up in their own minds.
Sometimes less is more, and that absolutely would've been the case here.
