7. Sunspot
Now we get into some more of the diversity territory with the Brazilian mutant, Sunspot. Roberto Bobby Da Costa was born and raised in Rio de Janeiro, the son of a wealthy businessman. Initially on the path to becoming an Olympic soccer player, Bobby instead manifests his mutant power to absorb solar energy and convert it into strength (transforming his skin and hair completely pitch-black). A founding member of the New Mutants, Sunspot quickly became friends with the teams leader, Cannonball (more on him later). Later in his career, Sunspot also gained the powers of flight and energy projection. The character has gone through a lot of development over the years, even testing his friendship with Cannonball when the two were involved in a love triangle with a fellow teammate (again, more on this later). Sunspot also already has a connection to the X-Men films: his father was a member of the Hellfire Club. In the comics, Selene, the Hellfire Clubs Black Queen, offers Sunspot his fathers seat in the Inner Circle and he accepts it. This could mean the chance to see the Hellfire Club stay active in the films. Sunspots presence in the team can also pave the way for sequels. Beyond the Hellfire Club and Selene as one potential story, Sunspot has also been involved with Gideon, another X-Force villain. And he is also connected to another villain, Reignfire. Thats three potential sequels Sunspots mere presence sets up for the franchise.
