Considering Fox has been mainly looking at the classic X-Men stories, though between Days Of Future Past and Apocalypse they could do worse than finally giving The Dark Phoenix Saga the movie it deserves. Again, elements of the number one classic X-Men story were introduced in The Last Stand...but it handled them terribly, fused it with a bunch of other stories, and generally sullied an iconic arc. With The Last Stand rectonned out of existence with the Days Of Future Past film and Cyclops and Jean recast to their younger selves in Apocalypse, meanwhile, the stage is set for a proper version of The Dark Phoenix Saga. With all the pathos, heartbreak, and interplanetary gubbins that goes along with Jean's descent into madness. Before, the idea of a psychic alien force in the form of a fiery bird didn't really gel with the down-to-Earth take of the X-Men films. Now you have time travel and the immortal first mutant Apocalypse, it might be time to do The Dark Phoenix Saga right: battles with the Imperial Guard on the dark side of the moon and eventual tragic suicide ending in tact. And with Cyclops in the role of Jean's one true love, not Wolverine. Who are you trying to fool, Brett Ratner.
