X-Men: Dark Phoenix - 40 WTF Moments
20. There's No Way Jean Could Stop Quicksilver
Flash forward to the point after which Jean has discovered that her father rejected her and asked Charles Xavier to take her away for his own good, we see the X-Men confront Jean in Red Hook, where her powers manifest fully and the police arrive for no reason. Seriously, what exactly are they responding to when they scream around the corner and end up being smushed by Phoenix?
Anyway, this leads to Quicksilver doing his thing and getting a slow motion moment, only for it to be undermined when Jean merely moves a piece of wood he was about to stand on and sending him crashing to the floor dangerously. There is a major problem here, because there's no way Jean could have moved her hand that fast. Her mind, maybe, but there is no precedent anywhere to suggest she's suddenly capable of superspeed and it's never mentioned again. Why not just have her mind do it?
19. What Was The Point In Spoiling Mystique's Death?
When the trailers revealed Mystique was going to die, it seemed like it must have been done for some crucial reason, like to show that Jean was capable of even more terrible things, but then in the film it just happens as any comic book movie death would and the lasting feeling is that they threw away the film's only truly memorable moment in the bloody teasers.
