X-Men: Dark Phoenix WonderCon Footage - 10 Reactions You Need To See

5. The Special Effects Are A Mixed Bag

One of the positive things to come out of those trailers is the special effects, which, on the whole, look rather good.

Not that we should be amazed that a blockbuster movie with a massive budget has strong production values, but considering how bad Mystique's makeup looks, it's good to see that not all of the film's visuals will be underwhelming.

But in terms of the WonderCon footage, the reaction to the film's visual effects has been rather mixed. Some people think they're solid, while others think they look plain bad, even worse than comic-book movies that came out in the early 2000s.

Twitter user @Phil60s70s put it simply, stating that the effects were "brilliant", but Jeffrey Harris of 411mania.com had the opposite reaction, writing that the visuals were one of many "red flags", were "nothing to write home about", and "looked worse than X-Men 2".

Harris also pointed out that Dark Phoenix was meant to open months ago, so it's had a lot more time to polish its CGI. Whether or not that time has been put to good use is unclear, because it looks as though the movie's special effects will be a much-debated topic come release day.
