X-Men: Days Of Future Past - 5 New Mutants You Need To Know

Meet the new class.

X-Men: Days Of Future Past is set for release in just two months, bringing most of the cast from all of the X-Men films (barring the two Wolverine spin-offs) back to the big screen, as well as adding new versions of character we have already seen, like Toad, Colossus and Colonel William Stryker, and there could well be a few more surprises in the shape of guest cameos or scenes that show up after the credits roll. One thing that Fox has managed to do successfully to peak interest in this film is name-dropping the new characters that will be showing up in their feature-length film debuts; in Days Of Future Past, we will meet five new characters who have confirmed by director Bryan Singer and who were officially unveiled as part of Empire magazine's run of 25 celebratory covers. The five in questions are Silver-maned speedster Quicksilver, gun-toting time-traveler Bishop, pink-haired pixie-looking Blink, Apache warrior Warpath, and hotheaded playboy Sunspot, all of whom will be recognisable to hardcore X-Fans, but for the casual fans there is no need to fear, as we are offering a run-down of what you need to know, and what to expect from the new additions to the mutant roster ahead of the May release.

5. Blink

First Appearance: Uncanny X-Men #317 (1994) Played By: Bingbing Fan Blink, born Clarice Ferguson, first debuted during the crossover title The Phalanx Covenant as a captive of The Phalanx who wished to assimilate her abilities, but based on the trailer for Days of Future Past, it seems like the film will be basing their version of Blink on the more popular version from the Age of Apocalypse story arc. In the AOA timeline, Blink was discovered as a mutant in Miami by Mister Sinister and The Dark Beast, minions of Apocalypse, and locked away in Apocalypse's Slave Pits along with Illyana Rasputin (Colossus' younger sister, codenamed Magik), who was her cellmate. Both were sexually abused by their jailer, the grotesque Sugar Man, before being rescued by that timeline's Logan (codenamed Weapon-X) and Sabretooth, who took Blink in as his adoptive daughter before she went on to become a prominent member of the AOA X-Men and then leader of The Exiles, a group of mutants from various realities brought together to right wrongs in certain timelines.
Mutation: Born with the ability to teleport herself, others, and objects, she can use her teleportation fields (aka blink waves) to "shred" objects/people or transport objects into people. Blink can also manifest crystal-like javelins and toss them at objects/adversaries, causing them to teleport or become stunned; if necessary, the javelins can be used to slice through objects and displace matter elsewhere.
