X-Men: Apocalypse - 15 Questions Left By The Stupidest X-Movie Ever

10. Did Bryan Singer Think He Was Smart With The Return Of The Jedi?

It's incredibly clear Bryan Singer does not like The Last Stand; not only did he dedicate an entire movie to undoing all of its mistakes, in Apocalypse he forces in a rather strong jab at it. While bunking off at the mall, Jean, Scott, Jubilee and Nightcrawler (who I'm amazed nobody was freaked out by) catch Return Of The Jedi and after some forced fan assessments, Jean concludes that "the third one is always the worst."

It already feels a bit tired given that Marvel played the same Star-Wars-reference card in Captain America: Civil War to better, more fitting effect, but what's worse is that the actual point being made here is incredibly short-sighted. The point ostensibly is that The Last Stand sucks (which it does), yet Singer's also inviting an awful lot of criticism on himself because, obviously, this is a threequel as well.

I can't for the life of me work out if this was serious or not. The director seems to have plugged his ears to every change in the superhero genre since 2003, so it's likely he's not quite realised the irony of him making a third one that is definitely the worst. And if he does get the full weight of the statement, why would you point it out? You're only inviting awkward laughs and easy comparisons. Saying you could have done better is no excuse for not trying.
