Zack Snyder's Justice League: 10 Issues That Hold It Back From Greatness
1. The Inconsistent Structure And Editing
And finally, the biggest issue with Zack Snyder's Justice League is the story structure and the thoroughly messy way in which the different plot-lines are edited together.
As previously stated, the story is fascinating but it's told in a badly-structured way. The film is constantly going off on narrative tangents and frequently loses momentum, while it doesn't feel like there's a clear narrative arc running through the film as a whole.
Similarly, most of the character arcs are inconsistent and are missing at least a few beats. For example, in the first part of the film Aquaman wants nothing to do with the Justice League, but shortly after a conversation with Mera (Amber Heard) he suddenly joins the league in the middle of a set-piece, without any particular build-up. There are similar issues with most of the other character story-lines.
Thanks to these issues with the storytelling, the film isn't always as emotionally engaging as it could've been and while it works very well as an experience, it doesn't necessarily work so much as a story.
Still, while these imperfections mean that Snyder's Justice League isn't a great film, it is still a satisfying, worthwhile effort and something that Zack Snyder can be proud of. As long as you go in with realistic expectations, you'll have a very good time with it.
