10 "Next Big Thing" Video Games That Completely Flopped
3. Project Milo
Billed as being the Kinect's killer app, Project Milo was the pet project of former Lionhead boss Peter Molyneux. Ideas for a game based around interactions with an artificial intelligence had floated around Lionhead since around 2001, but it wasn't until Microsoft announced their peripheral that the studio could begin to make their dream a reality.
Despite spending years to craft a 'realistic' rendition of a young boy who would allegedly react to your expressions and carry conversations with you, it was never quite clear who the creepy babysitting sim was aimed at or what the 'game' was actually supposed to be.
But that didn't stop Molyneux from barrelling on full-steam ahead with its production, trying and failing to bring his vision to life despite the limited technology of the motion sensor and the lack of anyone, you know, actually wanting to buy the game.
With each awkward new appearance, Milo looked increasingly strange, and the 'game' was eventually put out of its misery and canned in the early 2010s
There have been conflicting reports on whether the title was actually built at all, whether the motion controls were ever implemented and whether it was actually a feasible idea to produce, but Molyneux probably should have thought about all that before declaring that Project Milo was going to change the world.
